Trump Calls Netanyahu “War Hero”
During an interview on Tuesday with a conservative radio personality, Trump described Netanyahu as “a good man” who is actively engaged in conflict.
“He’s a war hero, because we worked together. He’s a war hero. I guess I am too,” Trump stated, aligning himself with the embattled Israeli leader.
The president dismissed legal proceedings against Netanyahu, suggesting “they’re trying to put him in jail,” though he didn’t clarify whether he meant the ICC’s international case or the domestic corruption charges Netanyahu is facing.
Netanyahu has been on trial for corruption since 2020, making him the first current Israeli head of government to face legal prosecution while still in office.
Trump previously urged for Netanyahu’s legal troubles to be dropped, expressing his opposition to the ongoing judicial process.
In November, the ICC issued arrest warrants targeting Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
The Israeli government is also defending itself at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), where it is being investigated over accusations of genocide related to its military actions in the Palestinian territory.
According to local sources, more than 62,000 Palestinians — the majority being women and children — have been killed in Gaza since October 2023.
The conflict has ravaged the region, bringing it to the brink of famine.
Trump also spoke about his previous efforts to free Israeli captives during negotiations with Hamas.
He claimed, “I’m the one that got all the hostages back…I’ve had so many letters from parents and from the kids themselves and the people that got out...none of these people would have been back, but I got them back.”
